Smart Security Design for Growing School District
The ADS team implemented a strategic Avigilon camera system across the district’s new bus lot, enabling real-time alerts for bus departures and arrivals and enhancing safety by monitoring the lot during off-hours.
The Challenge
To meet the increasing number of students in the district, Blue Valley School District needed to expand its bus transportation services. As a result, they purchased a second bus transportation lot in Overland Park in order to help increase student availability. BVSD’s biggest issue was that their office layout in relation to where the buses were located was inefficient, as they couldn’t visually ascertain the safety of the school bus drivers or whether they had left on-schedule for their route in the morning
The Solution
ADS met with the district and walked the property with them, learning firsthand about their unique challenges. With their issues in mind, ADS developed an Avigilon camera surveillance system – consisting of 13 strategically placed cameras which ran back to a server in the office. Utilizing the camera’s builtin object classification features, BVSD can receive real-time alerts when a bus leaves or returns to the lot – providing greater insight into the efficiency & safety of the bus drivers.
The Result
The district can now determine in real-time when a bus has or has not left for their route so that they can provide a backup driver who can start the route immediately to pick students up. The security camera system also covers the entire parking lot, giving the security staff the ability to notify someone who enters the parking lot during after hours or on weekends without authorization.
